The Victorian

ClubhouseSmallThe idea of a clubhouse started with Mr Blake in 1993. He and the Governing Body of the time, lead by Chairman Mr Noel Staples and member Mr Brian Barnes, who worked for Spoornet, bought two old railway coaches and installed them at the Dave Weinronk fields. After much work and cleaning, done largely by Mr Hans and Mrs Yvonne Ihlenfeldt, "The Coaches" were ready to be taken into service in 1994, the year Mr Blake died.

They occupied the site of the present Victorian and hosted many a staff party, Derby Day lunch and private function. Over the years, the weather and wear and tear took their toll on the coaches, and they had in any case become too small for the increasing demands made on them. A new clubhouse was needed.

Under the watchful eye of Principal Mike Vermaak and SGB chairman Keith Allers, the plans for the new clubhouse took shape. It was decided to put up an environmentally friendly structure that would blend in with the surroundings. H P Loghomes of the Gamtoos Valley were engaged to build the present clubhouse, which was opened in 2007. The new clubhouse, named "The Victorian", took over the functions of the old Coaches, as well as becoming the home of our Victoria Legends, our recently reconstituted Past Pupils Association. Visiting staff and parents enjoy hospitality there on Derby Days and other functions, while the venue is available for many and varied pupil, staff and parent gatherings.
