Our library and media centre is named in honour of Mr GAC Pearson, erstwhile headmaster of the school. Manned by Mrs Minnie, our librarian, and pupil volunteers, the library was dramatically refurbished in 2010.
This year saw the revival of the school library: and what a revival! It is with great pride that I can report that the Library is in full swing as a fully functional unit again. To date, as we near the end of the third term, the school has purchased almost 500 new books which include Fiction and Non-fiction as well as some Afrikaans literature. The Library is bustling with activity at break times as well as seeing a large turnover of classes during school time. The renewed effort to instill a culture of reading has been most successful. There is a large throng of grade 8 learners who are very keen readers and this is an excellent point from which to start. Other grades are not to be excluded as their excitement is evident as the new material hits the shelves and they beat a hasty path to the Library to take out and reserve their favourites.
The trustworthy Librarians without whom I would not be able to run the Library are as equally as keen as their peers and enjoy the thrill of the new books as they are prepared for the shelf.
Thank you to those who have supported the aims of the Library for 2010. We are on the right path and our efforts are not in vain as the learners reap the fruits of being a Reader.
Once a Reader always a Reader!
