Words cannot describe how we felt when our beloved choir teacher, Ms Kendall relocated to Nigeria. She was really an exceptional and humble teacher who always had a smile on her face. We will always remember her and cherish her in our hearts.
So we heard that we would be getting a new choir teacher – a man! We were hesitant, welcoming him, because we had no idea what to expect. None of us had a male teacher take us for choir before.
We couldn’t help but notice his neatness and how professional and committed he was. We were really impressed! Very soon we were used to Mr Jansen van Rensburg, who we now call Mr J, and his ways. We worked from day one, learning new songs and working on technique. It took a lot of hard work, but it was all worth it. At the Grahamstown Eisteddfod, the Victoria Park High School Choir walked away with a Gold Award!
The choir also participated in ‘Last Night of the Proms’, the Despatch Esiteddfod and ended off a successful year, taking part in the Spring Concert.
The Choir grew in numbers but also in spirit. Thanks to Mr J, we have become a family! And this in only the beginning… More success and good things are on the way!
