Star Search for 2009
If there is one thing Victoria Park posses in unity it is the passion to express ourselves through the spirit of music. Nothing competes with being locked up, in the sweet silence of a VP ‘Jamming’ session. Victoria Parks’ second annual Star Search competition happened on the 7th May 2009. Feeling the vibrant voices of the best talent in participating schools (Pearson and St Dominics Priory) and our own has to offer, you couldn’t help but lip mime to all the words of every song you knew. Stars were pasted all over the walls to set the dreamy mood.
We had prestigious judges ranging from Craig Mischief who kept us all laughing as he did a small comic strip to Alan Kozak a former Victoria Park student who does the sound and lighting for Centrestage.
Our guest artist Mr Emile Doubell and last-years overall winner Cayce Fielding kept the audience well entertained while the judges tallied up the votes.
We were fortunate to have a group of amazing sponsors who awarded great prizes to the winners. The night was organized by a Grade 10 music class but with the guidance from miss Kendall, Mrs Cheetham, Miss Matthews, Mr Louis, parents and the sound and lighting crew.
The night was far from amateur! On our search for stars we created many new friends who shared the same love for music as we do. By the end of the evening everyone was exhausted but true talent never dies and we crowned our shining star Gabby Oosthuizen (Grade 12 Victoria Park High School Pupil). We say thank you to all for all the support and believing VP’s dream to reach for the stars.
