Junior Act is a service society for the Junior (Gr 8 and 9) We strive to make the juniors feel welcome and to have a fun filled year, and at the dame time providing them with the opportunity to serve the school and community.

We have organized various events and activities this year. The two main events were the Junior Prom and Mr and Miss Junior High.
The theme for the Prom was “Retro Romance” and it was a great success. It was a night of glamour, fun, chocolate fountain marshmallows, love bubbles and glow sticks! A truly memorable occasion!

The theme for Mr and Miss Junior High was  “Bollywood”. It was also a big success and managed to swell our funds considerably. Thank you to all the generous sponsors.

We have also raised funds by having cake sales. Books and clothing have been collected and sent to some of the underprivileged Ciskei schools with Rally to Read. The children also really appreciated the sweets that we sent and especially the Tennis balls! We helped out at the Grannies Tea and the Ladies Tea, which was a fundraiser for Ashleigh Botha. We supported the family of Dayna Dorfling, realizing at the same time that our small contribution could never alleviate the great loss they experienced. Contributions are also made to a school Feeding Fund.

The charity we support is the Marinatha Home in Walmer. We use funds we have raided to buy whatever the home needs at the time. This year we managed to buy curtaining and tracks for all the windows in the Home. We donated a Music Player and a DVD player to the home. At Christmas time we bought presents for all the children and hosted a Christmas Party for them. Four of the children were sponsored to attend the Junior Prom, and we sponsored them to attend the show, “My African Dream”.

This year Junioract has done tremendous work and the members showed true Victorian spirit of giving and caring. I am proud to have been President of such a great board. They have worked well and have achieved great goals. Thanks to Dale McCarthy, Cassey Goliath, Mrs. Watson, Mr Theron and Mrs. van Niekerk for their support.

The Junior Service Club started the year with great ideas to serve the school and community to the best of their ability.

At the end of last year we organized the Junior Talent Show. This was a great opportunity for the Juniors to perform in front of their peers. All enjoyed the evening and many talented performers were seen on stage. We arranged a Christmas Party for the children at Marinatha Children’s Home. They really appreciated the gifts and party. The new Grade 8’s were welcomed by having an afternoon at school filled with fun events. The theme was the ‘Amazing Race’.

Our main event of the year was the Junior Prom. This was a great success and all enjoyed the theme of ‘American Diner’.

A donation was made to the Rally to Read expedition to the Transkei schools. The money was used to make parcels for each of the children at these under-privileged schools. More can be done about helping schools in the rural areas and we look forward to seeing our juniors working towards this.

We are amalgamating with Interact from now on and will function as Junioract. Our purpose remains to involve the grade 8 and grade 9 learners in charity work. This merging of the two Clubs which have the interests of others at heart, and the will to serve as true Victorians as their ethos, can only offer a stronger and more effective service to our school and community.

The Junior Service Club’s aim is to welcome the juniors to Victoria Park and make them feel part of the school. We have organized various activities and events this year. The main events were the Junior Prom and the Junior Talent Show. The charities, which we support, are Marinatha and Isithembiso. The members visited Isithembiso Home to acquaint themselves with the children in the home and the needs of the home.

The theme of the Junior Prom this year was ‘Great Hollywood Legends’. The prom was a great success and was a night of glamour and fun. Other fundraisers have been cake sales and a Pancake Day.
This year has been a success, made possible by the hard work of the board members. Thanks to Richman Luthando, Mrs. Watson and Mrs. van Niekerk for their support.
