Squash had an excellent season with the 1st team convincingly beating rivals Framesby, Westering and Woodridge, all very competitive squash schools. We did not disappoint as we traveled to Uitenhage to play against Daniel Pienaar, overcoming them with relative ease.
Mr. de Wet, our coach, worked us to a standstill at practices, which gave us the legs and the lungs necessary to record such wonderful victories. All of our matches were played in true VP spirit, each of us supporting and cheering on one another which inspired us to play to the best of our ability on the court. Our toughest match was, without a doubt, against Collegiate who have always provided sturdy opposition. Sadly we went down–but only in the dying moments of a keenly contested encounter. Our team won 5 of our 7 matches, which is not only a clear indication of the team’s talent but speaks volumes of the commitment and camaraderie that exists within this group of players. On behalf of squash, I would like to say a huge thank you to Mr. de Wet for willingly giving up his afternoons to dispense his coaching wisdom and lift us to our matches.

Squash enjoyed an excellent start to the season in the second term with the 1st team overcoming rivals Framesby and the 2nds beating Harvest. The architect of our success was Mr. de Wet, our new coach, who worked tirelessly at raising our fitness levels through practices that were rather strenuous but most importantly, fun as well! All of our matches were played in true VP spirit, with each of us providing vocal support and cheering each other on. Our toughest matches were, without a doubt, against Grey and Collegiate, who always provide stiff opposition. Grey were just too strong for us and we sadly went down against them. However, playing Collegiate was a different story completely. We played amazing squash against a team that appeared to have the upper hand, possessing one or two E.P. players, but in the end we came out victorious winning the match 10-5! This was undoubtedly the highlight of a successful season where we proved the victors in most of the matches played, with only a few being cancelled due to poor practice attendance. On behalf of squash, we would like to say a huge thank you to Mr. de Wet for giving up his afternoons to coach and take us to our matches.

Congratulation to Tammy Bayley, Matthew Deyzel and Mr Clayton Cherry (Coach) who represented Eastern Province, in various age groups this year.

This was one of the best years as far as results are concerned that Victoria Park has ever had. We would like to thank Mr. Cherry for playing such a major role in this improvement.
