TADA – Teenagers Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse for 2009

We are a society that stands against drug and alcohol abuse. Our goal is to raise awareness within Victoria Park High School about the effects of drugs and alcohol. The following are some of our projects:

TADA held a badge campaign, introducing a new STAND badge. The STAND badge indicates that the learner will STAND with TADA against drugs and alcohol. Learners in Victoria Park had the opportunity to order a STAND badge and may wear it to show their support. It was well supported; the proceeds thereof were donated to SANCA.

TADA hosted some of SANCA’s items to raise funds for drug rehabilitation. Amongst some of the items were Gold Ribbons with an attached key to symbolize “the key to a better life,” stickers and tiny nail stickers. The Gold Ribbons were a highlight and many Victorians showed their support by wearing them for our Awareness Week.

TADA also held a drug-free world poster competition amongst learners at our school. The poster competition was funded by SANCA.

TADA once again arranged a guest speaker to address the school. The speaker, Aaron Liddell, not only educated us about everyday drug situations, but also shared some of his personal encounters and speed bumps. drug addicts. As most VP students learn after visiting, these recovering drug addicts are just like you and me. It is so amazing to see the courage and strength they have in overcoming their addictions.

A big thank you to Mr. Hutchinson, the Board, and the school for their support and participation.

What we do:
We, as the TADA board, are here to help anybody within the school who needs advice or help regarding drugs and alcohol.
We go out to visit Shepard’s Field, which is a drug/ alcohol rehabilitation centre and talk to the patients.
SANCA also comes out to train and teaches us about drug related things. We also do team building activities.
TADA arranges guest speakers to address the school.

The TADA board is not qualified to council people but is here to make you aware of these addictions and effects thereof.
I hope the future TADA board will remain active and spread awareness in the Victoria Park High School community.
STAY HIGH ON LIFE!

TADA – Teenagers Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse 2008

In 2008 we have once again proudly stood as the society that supports anti- drug/ alcohol abuse. As always our goal is to raise awareness within Victoria Park High School about drugs and alcohol; and the effects thereof.

This year the board members underwent training held by SANCA which was most enjoyable and very informative. We were presented with our certificates by SANCA and badges after passing the necessary evaluations and being involved in several projects.

Victoria Park High School’s attendance at the march to mark World Tobacco Day on the 30 May was well attended. We were amongst more than 300 pupils who marched towards a tobacco free youth. I must add most of us never took part in a march before, but as we saw our ‘trainers’ from SANCA it was all under control and all had a fantastic afternoon promoting a tobacco free youth.

TADA also held a drug free world poster competition amongst learners at our school with some excellent posters being entered to promote the cause.

TADA once again arranged guest speakers to address the school. The respective speakers not only educate us about every day drug situations but share some of their personal encounters and speed bumps experienced in their lives.

We also went on trips to Shepards Field, which is a rehabilitation centre for drug addicts. The best part of visiting is interacting with the recovering drug addicts. As most VP students learn after visiting, these recovering drug addicts are just like you and me. It is so amazing to see the courage and strength they have in overcoming their addictions.
The following provides an overview of what we aim to do every year at VP: realize that although we as a board are not qualified to council people, we hope we are there to help our learners understand the effects and consequences of Drugs and Alcohol and will always be here to help as far as we can.

A big thank you to Mr. Hutchinson; Mr. Lehman; and the Board for their support and participation throughout this year.

Help us help you!

Always remember: STAY HIGH ON LIFE!
