M.A.D. (Making A Difference) for 2009

In 1 Thessalonians 5, St. Paul says, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 2009 has been a blessed year for all of us at M.A.D., and it is fitting that we give God glory, praise and thanks for all the graces that He bestowed on us.

Under the enthusiastic leadership of Mr Lehman, M.A.D. has been blessed with growth this year, in the form of both learners and teachers. Dr James joined M.A.D. in January, while later in the year Mr Makinwa and Miss Pienaar also devoted themselves to God’s service at VP. However, the greatest news is that many Grade 8’s have now joined M.A.D. and are very committed members.

M.A.D. had a very busy program in 2009, meeting every Tuesday at first break. The first term seemed to fly past, and after having a few praise and worship sessions and reflections to prepare for Easter, we closed the term with some hot cross buns!
In the second term M.A.D. launched two other initiatives. Once a week Mr Makinwa lead a Bible study class, and in addition he and Mr Barry held well-attended prameetings before school in the mornings.

The third term was no less busy!  It was decided to look at the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Christian, and so over the course of a few weeks M.A.D. members met and discussed the fruits of the Spirit, as outlined in Gal. 5. This was brought to a close with a fun-filled task of making a hand painted Holy Spirit “fruit tree!”

The last activity for the term, called the Heart of Jesus Day was held on Friday 18th September. A great  time was had, with many activities ranging from a Bible quiz, painting,  soccer, and praise and worship being organised. All who were there truly formed closer friends and grew in their relationship with the Lord Jesus.

2010 is now almost upon us, and so we give thanks to the M.A.D. board of 2009, and pray that the new board may be graced  and enabled to build on the successes of this year.

Dr G.R. James
