REUNION – WEEKEND 6 – 7 June 2008

Groups organised by: 1968 (40 years) Pat Metelerkamp and Lynn Kay
1983 (25 years) Debbie Jardine
1988 (20 years) Gino Fabri and Warren Telford
1998 (10 years) Allison Gooch

Why do we attend reunions?

We come to relive special moments. To renew friendships thought to have vanished in the mists of time; to shed a tear; to laugh; to feel younger; to . . .

“Do you remember?”, “What happened to – ?” filled the Thorp Hall; echoed around the school. What an example to the present pupils to see people so happy to be back at VP.

Having a separate weekend for each reunion became too time consuming. In order to accommodate all groups, Mr Vermaak decided on one combined weekend. 2008 was to be a trial year.

On Friday all were welcomed at a tea party, followed by a special assembly and an evening cocktail party which filled The Victorian to capacity. Fortunately good weather prevailed and the decks seated those who could not stand the crush inside!

The rest of the weekend was devoted to private functions at venues in and around town.

Favourite comment to teachers: “You still look exactly the same! Not a day older!”

We are looking forward to the weekend of 2009. Having learnt from this trial we are now ready to make your reunion even more memorable.

Thank you to all who made this a very special event. As Gino said: “What a blast!”

Marintha du Preez

CLASS of ‘68
Most of us were seventeen or eighteen when we hung up our blazers for the last time – Arno du Plessis found his bus ticket and his final exam paper in his inside pocket – untouched for forty years!!
And now we were to meet . . .

What fun we had! What was absolutely amazing was the ease with which we were able to chat to each other. The years just melted away.

What became apparent too, was the vital role that the school and staff had played in preparing us for success in our adult lives. The details we remembered about lessons and the staff were amazing!

We felt like VIP’s but even more importantly, we felt proud to be Old Victorians!

Pat, Penny, Gail, Geraldene and Arno
CLASS of ‘88

One cannot describe how it feels after 20 years to talk to someone you knew so well throughout your teenage years! Five minutes and you are talking like the old mates you were. There is something special about school friends. The relationships last forever.

This was a trip down memory lane1 We were really glad that we could be part of it.

Thanks to VP for an awesome experience.

Gino
