Quiz for 2009
2009 has been a year of expansion for both the senior and junior Quiz teams. We welcomed many new grade 8s as well as a few new senior players who all fared very well in the High Schools’ Quiz League.
The senior team prepared diligently for the semi-finals of the School’s League but unfortunately lost in a close game against our arch-rivals, St. Thomas High School. We bid farewell to our very loyal and dedicated Matrics, Patience Ndahambi and Sazikazi Mzileni. We wish them luck with all their future endeavours as they leave high school.
Many of the quiz pupils took part in the annual World General Knowledge Olympiad and we congratulate Brad Theunissen, a grade 8, for receiving a silver award. We hope to see him achieve in the years to come.
Lastly, two teams consisting of four senior players participated in the fast-paced annual Varsity College Quiz Competition in September. Special mention must be made of Adriaan Wildervanck (cpt), Reece Adams, Samuel Salcedo and Nicola Hanekom, who were placed 5th
out of 30 teams from around the Eastern Cape, an improvement on the previous year’s ranking. We wish to aim even higher for next year.
On behalf of all Quiz players, we would like to thank Miss Paulet Meyer for all her hard work and the extra hours she invested in us as a team. We would also like to thank Mrs. Russel and Mr Theron for their support at matches. We look forward to another exciting year of quiz.
