Victoria Park High School first rugby team enjoyed a comfortable
victory over Hoerskool Cillie over the weekend. Tries for Victoria
Park were scored by Sinaku Mafu and Martin Weatherall-Thomas. Mafu
ran twice over the try-line to score points. Samkhelo Hlabeni
succeeded in two conversions and one penalty for Victoria Park.
Christ Swanepoel managed to score Cillie’s only try. Swanepoel
displayed great courage in defence. Other players who played well for
Cillie included: T. Seaman, J. C. Webber, W. Haasbroek. And G.
Kloesen. It was however the Victoria Park forwards that dictated the
game. The Victorians forwards dominated the game both in the scrums
and line-outs and their aggressive counter-rucking ensured numerous
balls being stolen away from the Cillie side. L. Nohoyeka, J. de
Beer, S. Tyler, L. van der Linder and L. Thompson showed great courage
on the day. Aggressive and evasive backline running from D. Noyo, A.
Foley and S. Mafu ensured that the Cillie side was always on the
defence.
